According to Gopal Raj Vamsavali, the oldest ever chronicle in Nepal, this temple was built by king Prachanda Deva, a Lichhavi King who according to the stone in an inscription
erected by Jayadeva 11 in the Courtyard of Pashupati Nath in 753 AD, happened to be the ruler of 39 generations before Mandeva (464-505AD)
Pashupati Nath temple is the Aradhya Deva of (most important) all Nepali and Hindu of the world, its holiest place of all Hindu. Lord Shiva also worshipped in the form of Lord Animals. There is 13th Jyotirlinga. It's one of the most important Jyotirlinga of 12th Jyotirlingas.
